Good oral health is integral to overall health and quality of life. Research has shown a connection between poor oral health and other systemic health problems. Community pharmacists can play an important role in oral health promotion by virtue of their frequent contact with members of the public. They can enhance patient health outcomes by taking a frontline approach to oral disease assessment and management by identifying patients who are at increased risk for developing oral diseases,
recognizing the medical conditions that might be affected by preexisting oral diseases, and implementing oral health interventions. Pharmacists also play an integral role in patient education on safe and effective self-care product usage and
preventive oral hygiene practices.
