Description
Approximately 4,460 opioid-related deaths occurred in 2018 in Canada. This translates to one life lost every two hours because of opioids. Since more than 70% of opioid overdose deaths occur in private residences in B.C. (i.e. not including social/supportive/single room occupancy housing, homeless), pharmacies across the province can play an important role in educating all patients on the risks of opioid use. Stigma around opioid use and Take Home Naloxone Kits can be a barrier to conversations between pharmacists and some patients. This session will review approaches for introducing Take Home Naloxone Kits to patients in the community pharmacy setting and show how pharmacies can access both injectable and nasal Take Home Naloxone Kits for their patients.
