Description
Remission of Type 2 diabetes has recently been recognized as a viable clinical objective for many patients. Achieving remission using therapeutic nutrition often involves proactive medication reductions to prevent hypoglycemia and minimize risk of medication-related adverse events. Pharmacists are well positioned for this new role as they are educated in medication management and Type 2 diabetes. With appropriate training, they are a logical choice to support the safe adjustments or deprescribing of medications. This session will share preliminary results from a ground-breaking UBC clinical trial, highlighting the important role of community pharmacists in medication safety and deprescribing.
