Dr. Nakhla is a pharmacist and academic with a keen interest in minor ailments and self-care. As a faculty member at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy, Dr. Nakhla has spent the past decade designing and delivering curricular content on the assessment of self-treating patients, common illnesses and self-medication using nonprescription medicines in both the lecture and practical laboratory setting. Dr. Nakhla is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy where she has developed and coordinated a number of minor ailment management courses for pharmacists as well as the undergraduate and graduate programs. She has spoken at provincial, national and international meetings on these subjects, and has authored three chapters for the Canadian Minor Ailments reference. As a columnist for Pharmacy Practice + Business, Dr. Nakhla writes about common and current issues related to over-the-counter product counselling. In addition to her extensive academic work, Dr. Nakhla is an owner of an independent pharmacy and practices as a community pharmacist with a focus on the provision of expanded scope services and self-care.
